Lander Prosopis

Lander Prosopis is a social for-profit company. founded in 2018, which aims to fight poverty and protect the environment through the utilization of Prosopis. We are the first entrepreneurial entity in Somaliland utilizing Prosopis, and we hope to expand this sector in the country in order to create jobs, develop local markets, and empower local communities through the utilization of this abundant resource.

Prosopis, known as “Mesquite” in the west, has great potential to secure livelihoods, contribute to economic development, and offer a wide array of domestic and international products if utilized correctly. These products include animal feed, green charcoal, human flour, and value timber, among others.

Some of our accomplishments include:

• 2018 - Produced and sold our first 5 tons of Prosopis Animal Feed to Welthungerhilfen (WHH). Their test trial confirmed the quality was excellent.

• 2019 - Won the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Open Innovation Challenge, Alternative Energy Sources for Somaliland Households, Hargeisa Bootcamp.

• 2021 - Purchased our unique charcoal furnace and began charcoal production.

• 2021- We were included in WHH’s annual report.

Our mission is to turn the menace of Prosopis into the foundation of a versatile and sustainable company which can create a local economic and social impact as well as be a key player in a variety of foreign markets.
